Tom attended North Dakota State
University from 1973-1976. During that time he worked as student
trainer under the direction of Dr. Denis Isrow. He completed his
undergraduate degree in 1976 with a Bachelor of Science in Physical
Education with emphasis in Athletic Training and a minor in
Mathematics. Tom was hired by the Fargo Public School system as a
teacher and athletic trainer for Fargo South High School. He still
holds that position today.
During the twenty-two years with
the Fargo Public Schools, Tom has been supervising athletic trainer
for many regional and state competitions in many sports.
Tom has been very active in the
organization and operation of the North Dakota Athletic Trainers'
Association. He was elected Secretary/Treasurer of the association
in 1979 and has held the offices of Vice-President, President,
Executive Director and state representative to the NATA District
Five Executive Board. As secretary/treasurer, Tom coordinated the
first state clinical symposium, a meeting that has been held
annually since. He also established a Sports Injury Awareness Day
that had clinical meetings run by athletic trainers for coaches
across the state.
Tom was a speaker at the NATA
Annual Convention and Symposium in Kansas City, 1993. He spoke on
the ability to function in a high school setting and maintain your
personal life. Tom and his wife, Julie, have two children, Randy and
Cindy.
